Becoming an Arbetskamrat

To apply for a job or internship here, you must have an intellectual disability and be in upper secondary school or have completed upper secondary school.
If you are an upper secondary school student and are looking for an internship, the school will help with the practical arrangements regarding travel, schedules, number of days per week, insurance, etc.
If you are looking for employment, you register as a jobseeker with the Swedish Public Employment Service and submit a medical certificate to them confirming your diagnosis. Once you have done so, your prospective workplace can apply for a wage subsidy for your employment if they wish.
If you receive activity/sickness compensation, you must also notify the Swedish Social Insurance Agency when you take up employment so they can adjust the extent of the compensation.
You are entitled to work a maximum of 5 hours per week to retain full compensation from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. If you work more than that, the compensation is reduced in proportion to how much you work. For example, you can work 25% and receive activity/sickness compensation at 75%.
Before your first conversation with the internship/workplace, it is advisable to complete the form available under “Links and documents” together with your contact person, so you can use it as support during the meeting.
